CP Orutugu Seeks Joint Efforts To Avert Future Truck Accidents In Anambra

In his bid towards taking proactive measures to avert truck accidents in the State, Anambra Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has called on Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant agencies to collaborate and implement necessary cautionary measures for the Drivers and Owners of trucks.
CP Orutugu made this call yesterday in his office when he received the Truck Union members.
The CP noted that it has become necessary to engage the truck drivers and owners, following reports of truck accidents in recent times, especially on 15th March 2025 by 9pm at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha.
It was gathered that the accident claimed the lives of six persons and left a few others with various degrees of injury.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the accident occurred as a result of loss of control of a truck that rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles and a commercial bus loaded with passengers.
The Commissioner who described the incident as a preventive situation regretted that the loss of lives in the said accident
He also highlighted some of the necessary strategies to be considered while driving to include:
"Conducting Risk Assessments:* Identifying potential hazards and taking steps to minimise them.
"Regular Vehicle Inspections:, Ensuring that trucks are in good working condition to prevent accidents caused by mechanical failure.
"Providing Safety Training:, Educating drivers on safe driving practices and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations".
"Given the above, the Command aims to prevent avoidable tragedies and ensure the safety of all road users in the State" he added .
In attendance include: the Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra, JN Alexander, the management of the Police Command, some Tipper drivers/Owners,, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of 29 Squadron of Mobile Police Base, and some divisional Police Officers in the Command.
