A group under the platform of Coalition Of Anambra South Progressives COASP have lamented the absence of a Senator to represent their District since seven months after the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah .
The group also urged political parties in the state to nominate candidates from Nnewi North local government area for the purchase of equity and fairness noting that the Council Area should be allowed to complete the four year tenure of their late brother.
This is coming as the group has given the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC two months to conduct the bye election for the District lamenting that in the past seven months the zone has lost its voice at the National Assembly.
According to the Convener of Coalition Of Anambra South Progressives COASP , Mr Obi Chukwuemaka while addressing reporters in Awka;
"In a similar vein we want to seize this opportunity to entreat all political parties to field candidates for the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial bye election from Nnewi North local government area whenever INEC declares the contest open"
"This not just a matter of political expediency; it is a matter of equity, fairness and closure. We believe that the people of Anambra South deserves to have options and to exicise their democratic right to choose their representative"
"However we believe that the right thing must be exercised in the spirit of fair play , justice and equity which is a hallmark of Be Your Brother's Keeper of Ndigbo "
"By fielding candidates from Nnewi North whose son died in active service we are of the opinion that political parties need to be empathic before thinking of political expediency " he said.
Continuing, Chukwuemeka stated that;
"We urge the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to ensure that the bye election is conducted in a free , fair and transparent manner "
"The Commission must provide a level playing field for all candidates and ensure that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome of the bye election "
"We also call on INEC to fix the date for the bye election within the next two months"
"Infrastructure is decaying in Anambra South while our youths and women yearn for empowerment, but because we do not have a representative in the Senate, we have no means to access what is due to us " he said.
